Star filly Marhoona has etched her name into Australian racing folklore, storming to victory in the Group 1 The Galaxy at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse on 21 March 2026—exactly one year after her Golden Slipper heroics.
Twelve months on from claiming the world’s richest race for two-year-olds, Marhoona returned to the same stage and delivered again, producing a gritty late surge to capture the $1 million sprint in a thrilling finish.
Trained by Michael Freedman and ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, the Emirates Park homebred filly carried just 52kg and proved too strong over the 1100 metres, defeating Jedibeel with multiple Group 1 winner Mazu finishing third.
In doing so, Marhoona became just the second horse in history to complete the rare Golden Slipper–Galaxy double in successive years, joining the legendary Luskin Star, who achieved the feat in the 1970s.
Her victory capped a remarkable return to form this preparation, having placed at Group level in the lead-up, and reaffirmed her status as one of the elite sprinting fillies in the country.
The win also continued a dream association with Rosehill for Marhoona and her connections, with the filly now boasting two Group 1 victories at the track on the biggest stage of the Sydney Autumn Carnival.
From Golden Slipper-winning juvenile to Galaxy-winning three-year-old, Marhoona’s rise has been nothing short of exceptional—her latest triumph confirming her place among the modern greats of Australian sprint racing.
