Marhoona, the sensational two-year-old filly who captured hearts with her performance throughout the 2024–25 racing season, has been officially crowned Australian Champion Two-Year-Old at the prestigious Australian Racehorse of the Year Awards. The title acknowledges her extraordinary campaign that culminated in a historic victory in the 2025 Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes at Rosehill Gardens — the world’s richest juvenile race — and highlighted her as the standout juvenile on the national stage.
Bred and owned by Emirates Park and trained by Michael Freedman, Marhoona’s year was defined by precocious speed, consistency and grit. After winning her early starts and finishing a strong second in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes, she delivered a thrilling head-bob win in the Golden Slipper, cementing her place among Australia’s elite juveniles and adding significant glory to a filly already lauded for her talent.
The award recognises Marhoona’s remarkable achievements across the season, which saw her outperform her peers and capture the imagination of racing fans nationwide. Her performances not only boosted her own profile but also underscored the success of her breeding program, further elevating Emirates Park’s reputation in the industry.
At the ceremony, industry leaders celebrated a class of outstanding performers, with Marhoona’s Champion 2YO title highlighting her as the definitive juvenile of 2024–25 — a season in which she consistently demonstrated speed, tenacity and a champion’s heart.
