Mutawaajid
wins time honoured Hobartville
FEBRUARY
2007: "He's
a machine" claimed
jockey Hugh Bowman when asked
to describe Mutawaajid (3c,
Redoute's Choice-Elated Lady,
by Vain) following the exceptional
colt's determined performance
to win the time honoured Group
2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m).
Having
the fifth outing of his blossoming
career, the Emirates Park
home-bred maintained his unbeaten
record by dictating the terms
throughout the contest before
fighting back courageously
when headed over the closing
stages to post a memorable
victory at the expense of
Gold Edition. On the line,
Mutawaajid held a neck advantage
over the brilliant race filly
following a thrilling final
600-metre section run in a
blistering 33.78 seconds.
When
interviewed immediately after
the contest, race rider Hugh
Bowman declared: "He
is the first really serious
horse I have ridden from
an early age. I just have
so much confidence in him.
He has got the attitude of
a good horse."
Mutawaajid
now boasts the truly impressive
record of five wins from five
starts for earnings of close
to $285,000. He joins the
likes of multiple Group One
winners Lonhro, Danewin, Shaftesbury
Avenue, Sir Dapper, Marscay,
Baguette, Todman, Shannon
and Flight on the honour roll
of a contest first held in
1925. |
