Another
feature Derby winner for Danewin
FEBRUARY
2007: The
outstanding stud record of
Danewin was further enhanced
by the Group 3 TTC Tasmanian
Derby (2200m) success of Currigee
(3g, Danewin-Hi Queen, by
Nassipour). A $200,000 feature
of the 2007 Tasmanian Summer
Racing Carnival, this year's
Derby of the Apple Isle witnessed
a stirring finish with the
son of Danewin outstaying
his opposition to take the
Classic by a long head. Currigee
is now four-from-six following
his victory in the Tasmanian
Derby. The son of Danewin
took the long route to Elwick
having been conceived in the
Hunter Valley, born at Cambridge
Stud in New Zealand, sold
at the Karaka Sales in Auckland
for $NZ80,000 as a yearling,
and prepared for the contest
by Peter Moody out of his
Caulfield
stable in Melbourne.
From
the Nassipour mare Hi Queen,
a winner over 2000m, Currigee
hails from an outstanding
staying family which features
the likes of notable stakes
winners Dopff, Rizon, Sybeel,
Khamacruz, Regent Street and
the multiple Group One winner
Prince Ruling.
Currigee
races in the colours of the
Wanless family, natives of
Queensland. Not surprisingly,
the Derby winner will now enjoy
a brief spell before being
set for the $500,000 Group
One QTC Queenland Derby in
June. The son of Danewin will
attempt to become the third
winner of the major Classic
staged at Eagle Farm by the
Queensland Turf Club following
the previous wins of County
Tyrone (2002) and Toulouse
Lautrec (2004). |
