First Mutawaajid yearlings make solid returns
JANUARY 16, 2012: The first yearlings to be offered by Emirates Park resident stallion Mutawaajid made a very favourable impression when debuting at the 2012 Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast.
Comprising three home-bred lots all consigned in the Emirates Park draft offered during Sessions 1-4, the quality trio returned a collective $140,000 at a very acceptable average of $46,667.
Included amongst the three individual buyers was premiership winning Melbourne trainer Peter Moody, who went to $50,000 in order to secure a daughter of Mutawaajid from Ajaweed. However, the honour of top-price of the sale for the breed went to a colt from Thikra, bought for $60,000 by Victoria-based DRL Enterprises P/L.
Mutawaajid commenced his stud duties in season 2009 at a service fee of $8800 (inc GST). The average realised by the three Magic Millions Yearling Sale (Sessions 1-4) lots represents a return of more than five-times service fee.
Nominations manager Bryan Carlson reported: “It was good to see a first-crop yearling by Mutawaajid being bought by a trainer of the magnitude of Peter Moody. Furthermore, all three went to good homes and will be given every chance.”
Carlson added: “To get an average of 5.3 times his initial service fee was a very good achievement and shows that he can produce good types. We look forward to seeing them race.”
Another 10 members of Mutawaajid’s first crop have been catalogued for the 2012 Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale, five of which are to be offered by Emirates Park. Inspection of the draft will be available from first thing Thursday morning at the world famous Newmarket sales complex. |
