Daughter of Al Maher claims the Adrian Knox
APRIL 10, 2010: Al Maher’s first-crop 3-year-old daughter Speedy Natalie is now a Group winner after demolishing her rivals in the AJC Adrian Knox Stakes (G3) at her final preliminary to the AJC Australian Oaks.
Ridden well back in the field for the majority of the contest, the Peter Moody-trained filly rapidly improved her position around the home turn and hit the front soon after negotiating the famous Randwick rise. The final 200 metres of the contest witnessed Speedy Natalie trounce her opposition, crossing the finishing line three lengths clear of her nearest rival.
The Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes victory of Speedy Natalie was the second stakes win of her career. She had become Al Maher’s second black-type winner when winning the Listed SAJC Dequetteville Stakes as a 2-year-old on debut. In claiming the Randwick feature, she joined an honour roll that includes the subsequent AJC Oaks winners Rena’s Lady, Wild Iris, Republic Lass, Circles of Gold, Just Now and Our Sophia, to name but a few.
Al Maher’s first crop 3-year-old winners now amount to an impressive tally of 38. The offspring of the second season stallion has already amassed close to $1.9 million in prizemoney with almost one-third of the 2009/10 racing season remaining. |
