Back-to-back Ranvets for Theseo
MARCH 20, 2010: Emirates Park-bred Theseo became a five-time Group 1 winner when posting a second successive victory in the STC Ranvet Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill Gardens on the first day of the 2010 Golden Slipper Carnival.
A last start winner in the Group 1 AJC Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at the beginning of the month, the Gai Waterhouse-trained 6-year-old turned in one of his now famous front-running displays, culminating in him fighting off all challengers in the straight. The courageous son of Emirates Park resident stallion Danewin scored by three-quarters of a length in the time of 2m02.33s.
Theseo's latest Ranvet Stakes triumph was the tenth win of his brilliant career. The handsome chestnut has now won in excess of $3 million for a Star Thoroughbreds syndicate put together by the organization's principal, Denise Martin. After the Ranvet, Martin rejoiced: "The dream of being able to own a horse that can win five Group 1 races is indescribable. What a great buy! The people couldn't believe what a good buy they've got."
Theseo is a glowing advertisement for his sire Danewin, a champion son of Danehill (USA) on the racetrack and one of his most pre-potent sons at stud. Theseo emulated his sire by becoming a five-time Group 1 winner, a feat achieved by Danewin during his own exceptional racing career.
Significantly, Danewin's only representative in the 2010 Australian Easter Yearling Sale catalogue is a brown colt produced by Salameh, dam of the $2.7 million top-priced lot sold at the 2008 renewal of Australasia's premier bloodstock auction. By coincidence, both Danewin and Salameh won the black-type AJC Fernhill Stakes (1600m) during their respective juvenile campaigns. |
