Another Group 1 win to Theseo
MARCH 6, 2010: Emirates Park-bred Theseo posted the fourth Group 1 success of his brilliant race career when scoring a typically gusty victory in the 2010 AJC Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Warwick Farm.
Having only his second outing since April 2009, the 6-year-old son of Danewin virtually led from start to finish, assuming control of the race soon after breaking from the barrier and setting the tempo until well into the straight. After being temporarily headed by race favourite Rangirangdoo (NZ) entering the final stages, Theseo fought back close to the line to score by a half-head.
The 2008/09 racing season witnessed Theseo win three individual Group 1 events and become recognized as the NSW Racehorse of the Year, as well as Australasia’s Champion Older Middle-Distance Performer. After a satisfactory first-up showing in the Apollo Stakes when clearly in need of the outing, the seasoned son of Danewin bounced back to his very best to post the ninth win of his illustrious career.
Theseo’s Chipping Norton Stakes success took his career earnings to over $2.7 million. Stable spokesperson Tania Rouse confirmed after the event that the top-class gelding would obviously be improved by the outing, adding: “He’s just a marvellous, tough old horse. I knew he’d keep sticking his head out when if became a ding dong battle.” The 6-year-old now looks well on course to post back-to-back Group 1 STC Ranvet Stakes victories.
Theseo’s sire Danewin has been a stalwart of Emirates Park since commencing stud duties in 1996. His progeny now include close to 200 individual winners of which no fewer than 24 have won in black-type company. |
