Son of Danewin remains unbeaten
FEBRUARY 17, 2010: Danewin’s internationally performed son Fair Trade maintained his unbeaten record when winning the Chinese New Year Cup (1400m) on a feature Sha Tin meeting in Hong Kong.
Having his second start for the Casper Fownes stable in the Chinese enclave, Fair Trade overcame a checkered passage in the straight to score by a narrow margin, having unleashed a whirlwind finish over the final 150 metres.
Fair Trade commenced racing with trainer Mick Kent in Victoria, winning his first two starts for the stable, including the Group 3 VRC C.S Hayes Stakes. He was subsequently sold to continue his career in Hong Kong, where he won at his only other outing last June.
All four victories recorded by Fair Trade have been registered over 1400 metres, the latest coming in the outstanding time of 1m21.99s. The Group 1 Hong Kong Derby (2000m), this year worth HK$16,000,000 and to be staged on March 14, is now firmly on the agenda for the lightly-raced son of Danewin.
Fair Trade is the second major runner for Danewin in Hong Kong following the brilliant race career of the stallion’s exceptional daughter, Elegant Fashion. The Emirates Park-bred filly retired from racing the winner of eight races from 1200 to 2040m, featuring the 2003 Hong Kong Derby.
Fair Trade was bred by Wingrove Stud of Kerrie, Victoria, and boasts a fascinating pedigree. The imported mare Cotehele House (GB) is both the dam of his sire Danewin and Fair Trade’s third-dam. |
