Perth 2YO winner for Al Maher

FEBRUARY 7, 2010: Western Australia-based Why She Left earned the distinction of becoming Al Maher’s initial second-crop 2-year-old winner when winning the Westspeed Plate over 1100m on Ascot’s latest Saturday metropolitan program.

Having only the second outing of her career after an encouraging first-up fifth, Why She Left displayed good gate speed and was soon racing in second position just behind the favourite, City Arcade. The speedy daughter of Al Maher subsequently assumed control of the race in the straight before holding on gamely for a long-head victory in a thrilling finish.

Why She Left is raced by her breeder, Mr T.M. Patrizi, and is the fourth foal of a placed Royal Academy (USA) mare by the name of Entrant. Prominent in the pedigree is the VATC Blue Diamond Prelude (G3) winner Vertingly, while her fourth-dam is the Newmarket Nell Gwyn Stakes (G3) winner Gently.

As a maternal grand-daughter of Royal Academy, Why She Left is bred on the very same lines as Al Maher’s Group winning 2- and 3-year-old filly Majestic Music and the recent Country Victoria winner Taj Maher. All three carry at least two lines of the legendary racehorse and celebrated influence Nijinsky.
