Al Maher at the double again

JANUARY 28, 2010: Flourishing Emirates Park stallion Al Maher is making a habit of providing two winners on the same program and did so again at Geelong. Less than a week after being responsible for a double at a Seymour race meeting, the young Danehill (USA) sire-son supplied consecutive winners in Taj Maher and Cosmocrat on the Victorian raceclub’s January 27, 2010, program.

Taj Maher broke through for his maiden victory when proving successful over 1400 metres. The John Maloney-trained 3-year-old produced a strong finish over the closing stages to score by three-quarters of a length at only his second career start.

The Mick Price-trained Cosmocrat is now unbeaten in two starts, winning first-up over 1500m after having won his only start as a 2-year-old. This exciting gelding raced towards the rear in the five-horse field before circling the leaders at the top of straight and finishing too strongly in the run to the line. His winning margin was a conclusive two lengths.

Taj Maher and Cosmocrat follow fellow Al Maher first-crop 3-year-olds Lady Mahler, Club Ha Ha, Lady Gaga and Tasmanian 1000 Guineas heroine Feerique into the winner’s enclosure in recent time. Furthermore, each and every one looks capable of better wins in the coming weeks.
