More success for the Al Maher breed

OCTOBER 26, 2009: The Al Mahers continue to add to their booty. The latest Saturday program in Australia witnessed another couple of wins for the breed, with both 3-year-olds assigned contests of 1400 metres in distance or further still.

Winning over 1400 metres on the Gold Coast was last-start winner Favours Traded. Having only the second outing of his flourishing career, the Alan Bailey-trained gelding went to post as the $2.60 favourite and had very little difficulty in justifying his starting price. Following a two and three quarter lengths success, Favours Traded is now two-from-two with the obvious potential to win again in the not too distant future.

In Adelaide, the Leon Macdonald-Andrew Gluyas trained Bint Maher posted the first victory of her career when winning over 1550 metres at Morphettville Parks. This 3-year-old filly was stakes-placed during her juvenile season and became the second individual winner by Al Maher for the stable when winning her latest outing as the $2.70 favourite.

Following the maiden victory of Bint Maher, Al Maher now has fourteen individual 3-year-old winners to his name so far this season. This figure is virtually twice as many individual winners than all but one other stallion classified as a sophomore sire. Only Fastnet Rock enjoys a greater number of winners than Al Maher in the category after the first eleven weeks of the 2009/10 racing season.
