Another daily double for Al Maher

OCTOBER 17, 2009: Al Maher was responsible for his second daily double in less than a week when supplying winners on the latest Randwick and Newcastle Saturday afternoon programs staged in New South Wales.

In yet another major success for the emerging sire-son of Danehill (USA), All Legal scored a gritty win in the AJC Inglis Bonus Handicap (1600m), landing a motza for the 3-year-old gelding’s connections. In addition to claiming first prize of $42,000, the first-crop son of Al Maher also earned a $100,000 incentive placed on the event by William Inglis & Son, as well as a $20,000 BOBS bonus being eligible for the scheme. All told, All Legal won $162,000 for getting home first, taking his total earnings to in excess of $236,000.

Just as significant is the fact that All Legal became the third 3-year-old by Al Maher to prove successful when placed over 1600 metres in recent weeks. On the evidence of his win, in association with those of Majestic Music (VRC Edward Manifold S.-G2) and Kornati over the same distance, the breed is relishing the opportunity to compete at a metric mile. Furthermore, they give every indication of getting further.

On the same afternoon as All Legal’s valuable Randwick success, Getaway Plan won a 1400-metre Maiden at Newcastle as a short-priced favourite. The gelding became Al Maher’s fourth individual winner in the space of just three days and the stallion’s 12th 3-year-old winner of the current racing season.
