Al Maher starts 2009/10 with a bang

August 19, 2009: Al Maher has taken an early lead in the 2009/10 Second Season Sires (by Winners) listing with five individual winners in the first three weeks of competition.

One of the most successful members of the First Season Sires contingent of 2008/09, the Group 1 winning son of Danehill (USA) was represented by his fifth first-crop 3-year-old winner when Yule Luvit saluted in a 1300-metre maiden event at Bendigo.

After drawing wide in a 15-horse field, the Leon Corsten-trained filly worked hard throughout the first 500 metres of the contest in order to find the running rail. Once getting to the front, the daughter of Al Maher was never headed and crossed the line one-length of her nearest rival.

Yule Luvit follows Salinas, Dance With Her and Mahmentum as 3-year-old winners in Victoria for Al Maher since the beginning of the new season. The breed’s winning sequence in 2009/10 began with the Canberra victory of Mahezalon in the first week of August.

Yule Luvit was a $55,000 purchase made by Classic Bloodstock at the 2008 VRC Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale. Her dam, Yule Smile, is a three-time winning daughter of Rory’s Jester from the extended family of multiple Group 1 winner Eremein.

Al Maher is now responsible for no fewer than a dozen individual first-crop winners, produced from daughters of many different sires from various strains. Only Yule Luvit and the aforementioned Mahezalon share the same maternal grandsire, he being the notable broodmare sire Rory’s Jester.
