Theseo named NSW Horse of the Year
August 14, 2009: Emirates Park-bred Theseo was officially recognized as the 2008/09 NSW Horse of the Year following the chestnut's outstanding feats during both the spring and autumn carnivals of Sydney and Melbourne staged during the period.
A son of resident stallion Danewin bred by His Excellency Nasser Lootah from the imported mare Ozone Sand (USA), Theseo was also judged to have been the 2008/09 NSW Middle-Distance Performer of the Year.
A $120,000 purchase out of the Magic Millions 2005 Gold Coast Premier Yearling Sale draft of Emirates Park, Theseo is now the winner of eight races and over $2.5 million in earnings on behalf of a Star Thoroughbreds syndicate of owners.
During the 2008/09 season, Theseo established himself as the leading middle-distance performer in Australia. His victories included the AJC Epsom Handicap (G1), VRC LKS Mackinnon Stakes (G1) and STC Ranvet Stakes (G1), while he was also runner-up in another three Group 1 events.
Moreover, in 12 starts from August 30, 2008, to April 18, 2009, Theseo won or placed on 10 occasions over 1400m up to 2400m, only failing to figure in the finish of two shorter events staged at the very beginning of the 2008/09 season.
