First foals for Old Deuteronomy
August 11, 2009: The first few foals sired by Old Deuteronomy (USA) have arrived at Emirates Park NSW following the Storm Cat stallion's first year at stud in 2008.
A brilliantly precocious 2-year-old runner in GB-Ire before winning races as an older horse in North America, Old Deuteronomy commenced stud duties at the outfit's Diggers Rest property in Victoria where he was bred to 74 mares. The result of his introduction to the local thoroughbred industry is beginning to hit the ground, with two of his first crop foals arriving within a couple of days of each other at Emirates Park Murrurundi.
First to arrive on August 9 was a grey filly from Naseej, a daughter of Secret Savings (USA). Naseej is a full-sister to dual 2-year-old stakes winner Secret Land, from the immediate family of US Grade 1 winners Interpid Hero (9 wins, Hollywood Invitational Derby-G1) and Predictable (9 wins, Selima S.-G1).
Just 24 hours later, the Unbridled’s Song (USA) broodmare Ambrosine produced a bay/grey colt. Ambrosine is from a half-sister to three European stakes winners including the Ascot Royal Lodge Stakes (G2) winner Royal Kingdom. This is also the family of the Japan-Hong Kong Group 1 winner Agnes Digital (by Crafty Prospector).
Both foals get their grey colour coat from the female side of their bloodlines. In the first instance, Naseej is a direct descendant of Grey Flight, a celebrated daughter of Mahmoud, while Ambrosine took on the colour of her sire Unbridled’s Song, a maternal grandson of Caro.
Old Deuteronomy is standing his second stud season at Emirates Park VIC in 2009 at a fee of $5,500 (inc. GST).
