First 3-year-old winner for Al Maher

August 7, 2009: Mahezalon became the first 3-year-old winner for Al Maher when landing a maiden event at Canberra staged over 1280 metres on the Action surface.

Trained locally by Nick Olive and having only the third start of his career, the first-crop bay gelding went to post as the $3.20 favourite and did not let his supporters down, winning in a photo-finish.

Mahezalon became the ninth individual winner for Al Maher and his second on a synthetic surface. Al Chicago was one of eight 2-year-old winners for the emerging Emirates Park resident stallion when scoring on the Cushion track at Corbould Park.

Mahezalon was a $26,000 purchase at the 2008 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale. He is the ninth foal of Halcyon Daze, a three-time winning daughter of Rory’s Jester from the family of Listed stakes winners Splendid Melody (6 wins, SAJC Labor Day Cup-LR) and Pleasure Bandit (7 wins, VATC Health S. H.-LR).
