Nine and a half-length winner for Eavesdropper

AUGUST 3, 2009: Emirates Park newcomer Eavesdropper (USA) was responsible for yet another second-crop winner in North America when Honey Trap won a Maiden Claiming event at Evangeline Downs by an eye-catching nine and a half-length winning margin.

A chestnut filly from the Saratoga Six mare Byblos, Honey Trap raced off the pace in the six-furlong contest before working into the contest three wide around the only turn. Come the home stretch, the 3-year-old surged clear to become the latest winner for her progressive young sire.

Eavesdropper stands his first stud season in Australia at a time when his US-bred offspring are winning races with regular frequency. Honey Trap’s success followed those of Hot Rolston at Arlington Park and God Gave Me Style at Soffolk Downs in recent weeks.

Since the beginning of the year, Eavesdropper has been represented by 12 individual winners and now boasts $US327,000-plus in seasonal progeny earnings. He also enjoyed six individual 2-year-olds winners in 2008 — his first northern hemisphere season of representation.

Eavesdropper has arrived in Australia and is currently in quarantine in Victoria. He is scheduled to be transferred to Emirates Park (NSW) during the second week of August and will be available for inspection after the 11th.

POSTSCRIPT: June’s Best continued Eavesdropper’s impressive winning streak by landing a Claiming event at Ellis Park staged over five and a half furlongs on August 2.

This 3-year-old filly became her sire’s thirteenth individual winner in 2009 when posting the second victory in her seven-race career.
