SECRET
SAVINGS CONTINUES WINNING
STREAK FEBRUARY
2008: Offspring by Secret
Savings (USA) have enjoyed
an excellent run of form since
the resumption of regular
racing programs following the
Equine Influenza shutdown and
seems set for yet another year
of distinction in 2008. In
addition to producing a sequence
of metropolitan winners in
Sydney, the prolific grandson
of Mr Prospector also has two
exciting 3-year-olds figuring
prominently in black-type company.
Cent
Per Cent (3g, Secret Savings-Minnie
Me) became his prolific sire’s
latest stakes winner when
taking out the Listed Gosford
Guineas over 1200 metres.
Having only his third start
as a 3-year-old and second
since resuming from the EI
closure, the steel-grey son
of Secret Savings is unbeaten
this time in and now boasts
the impressive winning record
of four victories from eight
career starts.
Also
among the progeny of Secret
Savings to race prominently
in stakes company of late
was the highly promising 3-year-old
gelding Viatorian
(3g, Secret Savings-Viator),
an impressive placegetter
in the Group 3 VRC C.S. Hayes
Stakes (1400m). From the same
foal crop as Cent Per
Cent, Viatorian boasts the
similarly smart record of
three wins from seven starts
and is yet to finish out of
the placings in any of his
outings to date.
Both
bred by Emirates Park, Cent
Per Cent and Viatorian were
produced by home-bred daughters
of two leading broodmares
on the stud’s
books. Grand-dam of the former
is the wonderful producer
Arctic Scene (Can), dam of
three stakes horses including
Group 2 STC Gloaming Stakes
winner Courvoisier. On the
other hand, Viatorian hails
from the family of US Grade
2 Belmont Astarita Stakes
winner Cagey Exuberance through
the now Murrurundi-based
resident broodmare Walk Whatcha
Talk (USA).
The
latest metropolitan meeting
staged at Rosehill Gardens
saw yet another member of
the Secret Savings breed saluting
the judge when Wave
The Dollar (7g, Secret Savings-Oceans
of Love) took out Race 5.
The gelding is the fourth
winner for Secret Savings
on the past three Saturday
Rosehill Gardens programs
following the victories of
Swissac (4m, Secret Savings-Cuvaceous)
on February 2, and those recorded
by the aforementioned
Cent Per Cent and No Name
For A Lady (5m, Secret Savings-Sheher)
on January 19. |
